VAW – free community starts with me

Dear Friends and Gender Advocates,

As part of its commitment for gender awareness and sensitivity, UP Cebu through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office is joining the annual celebration of the 18 day campaign to end violence against women and children (VAWC) from November 25 – December 12, 2017. This activity supports the campaign by the Philippine government through Proclamation No.1172 s.2006 and RA 10398 especially spearheaded by Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to: (a) stop human trafficking and child pornography, (b) eliminate any form of violence whether domestic or institutional, and (c) continue the awareness campaign on how to end VAWC.

Schedule of Activities:
November 25
– Opening Salvo – at UP Cebu Audio Visual Room 1 for the Anti-VAWC Forum.
– There will be Solidarity Statements from various stakeholders and selected partner organizations.
December 6
– Forum on “Engaging Men in Creating a VAW Free Community” in the morning, and,
– an on-the-spot essay writing contest among Senior High Students in selected higher education institutions in Cebu city in the afternoon.
December 12
– Exhibit on Highlighting the UP Cebu GAD Accomplishments and the people behind it. Upholding Human Rights in UP Cebu through the 100 years of existence.
– Various Student Performances e.g. poetry reading, video documentary, music video presentations and Art and Photo Exhibit on how students understand gender, all its manifestations and how to effectively combat them.

The inaugural TBI summit will bring together all DOST funded

incubators, other government innovation agencies, private incubators,

innovators and some international incubator managers to explore topics

related to the entrepreneurial and innovation community through

educational sessions, group discussions, networking, and workshops.

The event will also feature the upcoming TBI host

universities/academic institutions through the launching of the Higher

Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship

(HeIRIT) Program with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with

the twenty (20) university partners as the highlight.

“O, Kita Mo Na: Pag May Alam sa Ekonomiya at Finansya, Malaki Ang Ginansya.”

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) celebrated their Economic and Financial Literacy Week (EFLW) last November 6-10, 2017 with the theme of “O, Kita Mo Na: Pag May Alam sa Ekonomiya at Finansya, Malaki Ang Ginansya.” In line with this NEDA Region VII hosted a Regional fora with the theme of “O, Nakita na Nimo? Basta Dunay Kahibawo sa Panalapi ng Economiya, Dako ang Ginansya.” The fora was held at the AVR 1, UP Cebu Lahug Campus, Cebu City and was attended by students from various schools and representatives from government agencies. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Kenneth C. Cobonpue, Chairperson of the Central Visayas Regional Development, Atty. Liza D. Corro, Chancellor of UP Cebu and Mr. Efren B. Carreon, Regional Director of NEDA Region VII. Among the lecturers for this fora are our own faculty of UP Cebu; Prof. Yuleta R. Orillo from the College of Social Sciences talked about “Ikaw ug ang Ekonomiya,” Dr. Tiffany Adelaine G. Tan, Dean of the School of Management lectured on “Linking Economics and Finance” and Dr. Marie Jane J. Matero, also from the School of Management, spoke on “Targeting Breakeven and Savings” and gave the participants some practical exercises to expand their knowledge on how to compute for breakeven and savings of a business.

Cine Europa Film Festival

CCAD invites you to the Cine Europa Film Festival

Come Nov. 9 and 10, we have the Cine Europa Film Festival coming to our campus to show some films and also a lecture on “Lecture on “Ties that bind? The future of ASEAN – EU relations in times of uncertainty”. The lecture is on Nov.9, 2:00 p.m. AVR1. Film showing will on November 10, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Titles of the films will be posted later. Please invite your class to the said activities, UP Cebu and CCAD is co-sponsoring the activity.

Cebu, the host city of the 3rd SCESAP International Symposium, is a melting pot of bountiful nature and diverse culture. Situated in the central part of the Philippines that sits at the apex of the Coral Triangle, it showcases a vibrant cultural mix of the East and the West, the historical and the modern eras, and a marine biodiversity unsurpassed in many ways. The international symposium will highlight the latest research in all aspects of coastal marine science, offering an opportunity for a productive exchange among scientists working around the Western Pacific. Invited plenary speakers, paper and poster presentations as well as relevant workshops will be featured.

The city is an international travel hub with excellent domestic and international direct flight connections from most major Asian cities as well as Australia, the US West Coast
and the Middle East. Coastal ecosystems of interest are easily accessible and promise to offer outstanding opportunities for symposium-related trips.
