DCS offers 2-day seminar-workshop on Advanced Data Structures

The Department of Computer Science of the University of the Philippines Cebu will be holding a two-day seminar-workshop on Advanced Data Structures this September 20-21, 2013 at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR)-2 of the college’s Lahug campus. This seminar-workshop will be given by Dr. Jaime DL Caro of the University of the Philippines Diliman, a recognized expert in the field.

The activity aims to offer better appreciation and application of selected topics in Advanced Data Structures. It is further aimed to enhance and improve the participating school’s curricular activities and offerings.

This Advanced Data Structures seminar-workshop is offered free to universities and colleges in Central Visayas as part of the mandate by the UP Cebu Department of Computer Science as a Center of Excellence in I.T. Education awardee of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Policy research workshop held in UP Cebu

The UP Center for Interactive and Development Studies (UP CIDS) sponsored a workshop on “Building Capacity To Do Policy Research” held last July 23, 2013, at the University of the Philippines Cebu Interactive Learning Center AVR (ILC AVR).

The workshop aims to develop the capacity of young faculty-researchers of UP to do policy researches and to write policy papers for publication.

According to its website, UP CIDS spans the spectrum of perspectives, methodologies, and ideologies as it conducts basic and policy-oriented research. It harnesses the University’s multidisciplinary expertise for research on critical areas.

The workshop featured a panel of experts and research fellows particularly Dr. Marilou G. Nicolas, Executive Director of UP CIDS, who presented Policy Research in the Social Sciences, Education and Arts and Letters; Dr. Josef T. Yap, President of the Philippine Institute of Development Studies (PIDS), who imparted Policy Research in Economic and Law; Dr. Perry S. Ong, Professor, Institute of Biology, UP Diliman presented Policy Research in Basic and Applied Sciences; and Dr.Temario Rivera, Professorial Lecturer of the Department of Political Science, UP Diliman, who expounded on Writing and Publishing Policy Research.

Towards the end of the activity, the participants worked by groups and conceptualized their capsule proposals on a policy research they wish to undertake.

Faculty members from UP Cebu, Visayas, and Mindanao campuses attended the workshop.

The said workshop was the second venue facilitated by UP CIDS following the one held in UP Diliman last May which was attended by Associate and Assistant Professors from UP Manila, Diliman, Baguio, Los Baños and Open University.
