UP Cebu to Hold Forum on Women and Disaster and the Continuing Disaster of Trafficking of Women for Cyber Sex and Prostitution

womens month 03-2014As part of the Women’s Month Celebration, the question “How disaster abets violence against women and trafficking?” will be tackled in the forum sponsored by the UP Cebu Gender and Development Office and Sidlak Gender Resource Center – 7. This will be at the Audiovisual Room 2 on March 12, 1:00 -4:00 PM. Prof. Kaira Alburo-Canete of the Social Sciences Cluster will share her research on disaster and gender-based violence. Senior Inspector Ma. Theresa Macatangay of thr Regional Anti-Trafficking Task Force will discuss the anti- trafficking campaign to combat sexual exploitation of women and girls in cyber space.

Sidlak partners coming from government, civil society and academe will hold their solidarity fellowship after the forum. Another highlight of the celebration is the unveiling of the mural and opening of the art exhibits entitled, “Tribute to Women,” by the Fine Arts students under the supervision of Prof. Palmy Pe Tudtud. Dean Liza Corro and Associate Dean Karl Roque will open the exhibits.
