“I learned on how to apply grit and effective communication skills for my future job from my UP Pahinungod volunteer speakers”, said by Mary Grace Portrias, a graduating student from Bohol Island State University (BISU) Calape in their “Webinar on Job Preparation and Professional Enhancement” on 01 June 2021 via Zoom.
Attended by 221 BISU – Calape students and faculty members, the workshop aimed to develop the students’ grit and soft skills on how to apply for jobs and to be a sensitive and pro-active professional. The 8 volunteers were alumni and current students of the College of Social Sciences Master of Education program: Erica Mae Abelgas, Angelika Fae Amado, Marco Lorenzo Baccay, Kent Aryll Cañete, Geraldine Codizar, Quennie Mae Dianon, Ericka Mae Encabo, Sergio Manugas, Kyle Pulmones and Mileni Torres.
The evaluation showed that the program developed BISU students’ self-confidence. The powerful words that the speakers have spoken pushed them to strive hard and even harder in tough situations. They realized that if they have grit to pursue what they ought to be, they can possibly do it.
Ms. Geraldine Codizar, an MEd alumna said, “I felt delighted and fulfilled to be given a chance to share my insights on job preparation to the chosen students and to hear their personal experiences.” Mr. Sergio Manugas added, “In order for you to be able to talk about grit, you must be able to experience it firsthand, so that when you try to explain what grit is, you will have your own experience to begin with.”
The workshop was organized by the UP Cebu Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, Ms. Maria Dina Golosino, BISU – Calape Campus Guidance Counselor and her Peer Facilitator’s Circle Group.
