“I was not informed!” Fumed a motorist whose car submerged in deep flood waters about a decade ago. The USC, through Project Poste of the Smart City Solutions to Urban Flooding (Smart TUrF) Program, is developing a multipurpose kit that can measure flood depth, determine rainfall volume, and issue public warnings. The warnings denote potential flood depth. Thus, motorists and the public are informed. The data collected by the sensors will help calibrate hazard models and guide engineering and policy interventions. The Smart TUrF program is a collaboration between UP Cebu (lead), USC, and CIT-U. The DOST and Mandaue City provided the funds necessary to jumpstart this initiative.
Earlier today, the USC Poste Team showed off their first prototype. Seven Poste Kits will soon be installed at strategic areas in Mandaue City for pilot testing.
