The University of the Philippines Cebu Communication seniors bagged major and minor awards in the public screening and awarding ceremonies of the Sinulog Film Festival 2024 held in Cinema 6, Robinsons Galleria Cebu on April 13, 2024.
Produced by Ugmad Productions, “Kon Mahunong ang Sulog” delves into the depths of supernatural storytelling while shedding light on the oppression experienced by indigenous people. The film took inspiration from the struggle of the Butbut tribe of Kalinga against the Chico River Dam Project during the regime of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
“Kon Mahunong ang Sulog” secured the following awards:
- Best Short Film
- Best Director – Zhynnon Mantos
- Best Story and Screenplay – Mila Lagahit, Bianca Cabrera, and Lara Batulan
- Best Actress – Mila Lagahit
- Best Supporting Actress – Ligaya Rabago
- Best Cinematography – Zildjian Reganon and Zhynnon Mantos
- Best Sound Engineering – Zildjian Reganon
With the special participation of award-winning actress and retired CCAD professor Ligaya Rabago, the students’ triumph not only reflected their creative prowess but also highlighted their collective vision in addressing pertinent social issues through film.
