On July 31, 2024, the University of New Brunswick (UNB) visited the University of the Philippines Cebu for a campus tour and a series of discussions with key university officials. The delegation from UNB met with Chancellor Atty. Leo B. Malagar, Office of International Linkages Coordinator Asst. Prof. GS Lloren, Assistant to the Chancellor Asst. Prof. May Christina Bugash, and Asst. Prof. Palmy Marinel Pe-Tudtud, representing the College of Communication, Art, and Design.

During their visit, the two institutions discussed potential plans for collaboration. [1] As Canada’s oldest English-language institution, UNB aims to offer reciprocal programs with UP Cebu. Plans include introducing Engineering courses, establishing exchange programs, and exploring UP Cebu’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program offered in the Master of Education program.

This significant initiative seeks to elevate UP Cebu through collaborative efforts, including combining the strengths of UP Cebu’s arts and design programs with UNB’s entrepreneurship expertise. [2] UNB is considered home to one of the most innovative entrepreneurial ecosystems in the country. This fusion of disciplines aims to enhance the academic and professional landscape for students at both universities.

Notably, UP Cebu was the only university visited by UNB in the southern Philippines, covering both the Visayas and Mindanao regions. In Luzon, UNB visited UP Los Baños and UP Diliman.
