The University of the Philippines Cebu through its Product Design Program has officially launched the Matix UP Cebu on March 21, 2025, at the Undergraduate Building.

This introduces a new hub for materials research, sustainable design, and innovation. The initiative is part of the university’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and developing high-impact materials for local and global applications.

Building on the vision of the MATerial Innovation and eXploration Lab (MATIX Lab), the launch highlighted access to cutting-edge materials, expert-led development programs, and strong industry partnerships. The lab’s core programs include materials research and development, product development and business incubation, and a digital archiving and cataloging system that provides physical samples alongside an integrated online database with design tools.

These initiatives align with the Tatak Pinoy Act (RA 11981), which supports the Philippines’ industrialization efforts by promoting innovation, global competitiveness, and sustainable practices.

With its focus on sustainability, collaboration, and cultural preservation, Matix UP Cebu is set to become a key driver of material innovation in the country. The lab will continue to expand its research and industry partnerships, reinforcing UP Cebu’s role in advancing creative, sustainable solutions for the community.
