The Municipality of Santa Fe, Cebu has requested the technical assistance of several faculty members from the Political Science Program with the leadership of Dr. Ana Leah D. Cuizon to conduct a Policy Analysis and Writing Training Workshop from the 19th to the 20th of October, 2023.
The UP Cebu Delegation included a team with Chancellor Leo B. Malagar, Political Science Coordinator Professor Zenaida Ligan-Ashburn, Dr. Ana Leah D. Cuizon, and Atty. Cyril Bryan D. Cuizon with the assistance of UP Cebu Political Science Alumna Jan Brithney L. Navales and Era Luz Maria M. Prieto.
The two-day training-workshop ran two (2) modules and workshops, which included:
(1) Module 1: Introduction to Policy and the Policy Process with Workshop 1: Problem Tree Analysis facilitated by Dr. Ana Leah D. Cuizon; and (2) Module 2: Developing Policy Goals and Alternatives with Workshop 2: Solution Tree Analysis facilitated by Atty. Cyril Bryan D. Cuizon. Both workshops were facilitated by Prof. Zenaida Ligan-Ashburn during group presentations and critical feedback sessions.
On the afternoon of Day 1, October 19, a ceremonial MOA signing between UP Cebu and Municipality of Santa Fe was held, undertaken by UP Cebu Chancellor Atty. Leo B. Malagar and Municipal Mayor Ithamar P. Espinosa. This was followed by an exploratory meeting with Santa Fe Municipal officials to discuss possible collaborations between UP Cebu and the Municipality of Santa Fe. Afterwards, the UP Cebu delegation together with the municipal officials and personnel visited the UP Cebu donated lot in Santa Fe for an ocular inspection. The university plans to put up a campus in Santa Fe in the pursuit of providing programs that will address the needs of Santa Fe and other municipalities nearby and continue upholding free education for all.
On the next day, the Policy Analysis Writing Training-Workshop continued with Module 2 and Workshop 2. The whole program commenced early in the afternoon and ended on a positive note with the Sangguniang Bayan Members, their staff, Municipal Officials, and Personnel receiving certificates of completion and participation from the UP Cebu delegation.
In this tri-fold visit, UP Cebu was able to establish another critical linkage. In moving forward, it hopes to stay true to its mandate to ‘Serve the People’, carrying its vision towards innovation, responsible governance, and community service.
