In line with the UP Cebu Quincentennial Commemorations and the culmination of Pride Month, the Joya Gallery together with UP Cebu Gender and Development Office invites you to a discussion on queer identities in precolonial Bisaya society.
The discussion will focus on the figure of the Asug, a term used for transvestite male shamans in most of the Visayas and in the Bicol Region. It will look into how their roles and status in society frame the precolonial understanding of gender and queer identities.
Join us in Zoom on Friday night, July 2, 2020 at 8:00 PM.
