In response to Memorandum No. CLM-2022-03B, the University of the Philippines Cebu (UPC) has initiated proactive steps towards energy efficiency and conservation. With a focus on reducing electricity consumption, UPC has launched a campaign to remind office staff of key energy-saving practices outlines in the memorandum.

Emphasizing the importance of two specific measures outlined in the memorandum, UPC has taken actions to implement Item No. 2, which pertains to turning off unused lighting systems, and Item No. 6, which refers to turning off or setting unused equipment to sleep mode. To reinforce these directives, the university has strategically placed signage before every piece of equipment in office spaces, including air conditioning units, light switches, and other appliances, photos of which are shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

The significance of these measures extends beyond the confines of the university campus, as they contribute to the broader national effort to reduce electricity consumption. By adhering to these practices, UPC aims to play its part in minimizing the government’s monthly energy consumption, thereby alleviating strain on the national power grid and reducing carbon emissions.

In conclusion, UPC’s proactive approach to energy conservation not only foster a culture of sustainability within the university but also aligns with broader national and international goals aimed at promoting environmental protection and combating climate change. Through collective action and diligent resource management, UPC demonstrates its commitment to building a more sustainable future for generations to come.
